He knew her body almost as well as his own. They would map out the plains and ridges or each other’s body in the night. He ran his fingers along her bony clavicle until he got to her shoulder and found the small raised bit of flesh that she had. She had never really liked it until he had mentioned that he found it very attractive. In truth, she thought it made her less attractive to him. For all her scars and marks, she did not find the ‘beauty mark,’ as he had put it, attractive on her at all. But he would shake his head and reassure her that those marks were only on the most beautiful of women. She didn’t seem to mind it so much after that.

In the week that they had spent together since that first night Kon was usually up before her, when the sun was still trying to peak over the horizon.  He would carefully roll out of bed, pause for a moment to look at her (she could always feel his eyes linger on her form), before going on his way to the farm where he would greet the rays of the sun.

Meditation was instrumental in Kyoshi’s life.  When she first visited the Air Temples when she was eighteen, she’d hated having to sit still for hours on end, learning to breathe as one with the earth.  Years later, she came to depend on enjoying the stillness, of becoming one with her surroundings, of avoiding distractions.

She moved silently into the room where the sounds had been coming from to find that her very young daughter had Kyoshi’s make up smeared messily all over her face. It was amusing for only a moment and then her face turned serious.

Kyoshi’s eyes refused to close.  She tossed and turned, even threw off the covers and let Kon keep them, but no matter what position she was in she could not get comfortable.  Her breathing did not slow, her mind did not stop whirring, and every time she felt that perhaps sleep was a little closer than it was only moments before, a terrible, gut-wrenching feeling would pull her out of it.

A continuation of drabble “gossip

Meditation was essential to her day. She would sit in the morning with Kon and ponder the day ahead; in training her warriors it kept her mind as sharp as any blade; and at night she would reflect on the day’s events. This night she had much on her mind and found it increasingly difficult to find her center.

Some of the features that made Kyoshi so recognizable was her war paint. Each morning, after prying herself from Kon and the sheets, she would get dressed in her outfit and then apply the white, black, and red paste to her face while looking at herself in a full sized mirror. She had had other mirrors before, but this one was… special.
